The Fan House is, without question, one of the most interesting projects we have ever been involved with. Untouched for over 60 years, the north Kensington house was tired and lacked identity. The client brought to the conversation a rich family history of influences from Scandinavia, Russia and Asia, which appears in a kaleidoscope of colours, textures, reclaimed material, wallpapers, tiles and so on.
We extended the property with a garden room with three new sets of French doors into the garden. We designed oak shutters, selecting the timber in West Sussex, and proceeded to prototype and manufacture large leather fans to add both privacy and drama to the space. Made by Duvellory in Paris the fans are a unique element and celebrate the client’s ambition and the creative collaboration between client, Architect and a raft of talented makers.
